The Mystery of the White Button

Day 2 of laundry, and I came across a white button in the dryer. I will be spending tomorrow morning going through my clothes as well as finishing up my laundry to figure out where the button belongs.

I don’t recall any of my clothes having round, white buttons, but that doesn’t mean anything; my memory is truly terrible.

It’s getting late and I’m tired from today. This weekend I will be finishing up my cleaning and working on a logo, and hopefully by Monday, I will be moving onto the second phase of this project as well as picking up school and work again. I know there will be speed bumps, but that doesn’t mean I have to give up.

Clothes Mountain: End of Day 1

As my day comes to a close, I got about three baskets of laundry done.

I don’t really have much else to report. I feel like I have another day or two of laundry before I get everything sorted away.

I’m proud and extremely tired from running up and down the stairs.

Tomorrow is another day! I can’t wait to be done with this and move onto the next part of my project!

It’s Happening

Well, today’s the day I reveal my greatest shame… Clothes Mountain.

This pile of shirts, socks, pants… and a couple of towels does get clean, I just never put any of it away and it is now a combination of clean and dirty. Starting today, I am going to be washing all of it.

My plan is to fill my duffel bag with clothes from a laundry basket and bring both the duffel and the basket down to the laundry room. Then, I will sort through everything, and start washing. When one load goes in, I will go back to my room to collect more clothes. Once everything is clean and has gone through the dryer, it will be folded and put into the laundry basket. This process will be repeated until all of my clothes are clean.

I don’t know how long this will take, but it’s getting done no matter what. After everything is clean, I will decide what stays, what get thrown out and what gets donated.

It is now 4 PM, and I’ve put this off long enough!

Another Thing off my List!

In only an hour, I cleaned up my entire dresser! The top is now semi-organized, and the drawers are in better shape.

The dresser is a work in progress, and the items will continue to be moved around one I do all my laundry and make a plan for where everything needs to go.

A lot of the trash, once again, was a bunch of bags, and various clothing tags that I’ve collected over the years. I found move jewelry, and a few cards and notes from my grandmother.

Tomorrow starts the first day of demolishing Clothes Mountain and finally getting the laundry baskets out of my room. I’m hoping to get rid of a lot of my old clothes, but I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Cleaning isn’t hard, it’s just repetitive and tiring. I’m starting to enjoy doing this, and I can’t wait for it to be done!

Addressing the Dresser

Now that it’s 12 PM and I woke up about 10 minutes ago, I think I should start working on my dresser.

Currently, the top couldn’t possibly have anymore random items, and the drawers are filled. I remember back when I originally set up all the drawers and it was so clean and neat…. now it’s a disaster, but that’s going to change!

This should be the easiest to clean out everything, because I just need to go drawer to drawer and straighten things up. I’m actually really looking forward to today. I didn’t realize until the past few days that cleaning isn’t actually a terrible thing, and it’s making me feel better about myself.

After today, nothing will be standing between me and Clothes Mountain. I feel like Clothes Mountain is going to take a couple of days, and a lot of laundry detergent and fabric softener!

I really don’t know what else to say about this. I’m excited that I will get to start my number one goal soon, so then I can finally start writing and talking about something other than cleaning!

Until then, I better get going and start cleaning!

Baby Steps!

Today, I set out to clean my closet and I did it! There’s still a couple of small boxes in there I have to go through, but I can actually walk in there now and begin to organize my clothes.

I found a lot of interesting things during my closet adventure:

  • Candy stash that I forgot about (and threw away)
  • A metric ton of bags
  • Too many recipes
  • Small pile of clothes
  • Pokémon cards
  • Christmas ornaments and lights
  • Enough hangers to start a hanger wholesale shop

and finally… the floor! I found the floor! I forgot how spacious my closet was.

Now that my closet is clean and tidy, I can take on my dresser and start doing laundry for the next week (I do have clean clothes, but I have more that need to be washed). After everything is in its place, and I’ve gotten rid of the stuff I no longer use or need, I can finally start on my main goal: to become more feminine.

I feel accomplished, and I’m extremely proud of myself. I spent about 2 hours this morning just staring at the door, dreading the thought of even entering that space, and now all I want to do is keep going and re-discover my forgotten treasures!

The Closet

Today marks the day that I start working on the one place I’m afraid to even go near: my closet.

My closet is probably the worst part of my room, and the only clothes I get out of there anymore are the ones I have hanging on the door. A pile of Shopping Trip’s Past stands between me and my closet rod; just thinking about it makes me have a panic attack.

The pile in my closet began because my cat Coke (pictured above) would tear up plastic bags and anything in them. Eventually, I got into the habit of just throwing everything in there and closing the door. I used to be able to go in my closet and actually get dressed, but it’s gotten so bad that I can’t get past the doorway.

I will be armed with garbage bags and my Spotify playlist. I guess all that’s left is to get started!

Just the Beginning

It is now 10 PM and I have finally stopped moving.

Instead of tackling my room, I took on the back bedroom with my mom between 2-8 PM. I was originally going to start cleaning off the top of my dresser, when I noticed I have a ton of earrings, necklaces and bracelets all over the place. That’s when I remembered all of my jewelry boxes in the back room.

I was almost positive that they were in this one box towards the front of the room… My certainty withered away, and I ended up going through five boxes until I finally found them. This took 6 hours to do, but we got a lot done.

The room started off looking like this:

Before - back room

Once I learned that the jewelry boxes were not where I thought they were, we dug into the room. After unpacking, throwing away and merging boxes and bins, I finally found what I was looking for! The room looked pretty decent, as well!

After - back room

It’s not a major improvement, there a lot left to sift through, but I feel like I accomplished something and I got to spend the day with my mom! We ended up with a full bag of recycling and trash, a few empty boxes, and two bags full of donations.

It was nice to clear out a lot of that stuff, and it wasn’t as overwhelming as I thought it would be. I have been putting off going through my stuff for years now, and I’m extremely happy that I finally sat down and did it!

The Game Plan

I think I need to do this project in steps. I can’t just dive in and become some girly girl. I want to actually get something out of  this, so I’m going to do it properly. The tasks I have created for the first week of this year is to get organized!

My room is, for lack of a better word, a disaster. Every flat surface has a ton of random stuff on it, one section of my room is dedicated to the ever-growing Clothes Mountain, and my closet is a black hole where clothes go to die.

I think my goals for this week should be:

  1. Work my way through my closet until I can see my floor again.
  2. Organize my dresser.
  3. Demolish Clothes Mountain and utilize my closet and dresser.
  4. Go surface to surface and clean up.
  5. Throw out what I don’t need, and sell/donate items that are in good condition.

I will be keeping inventory of everything I go through so I can see just how much I have. This might take longer than a week, but it’s still early in the year, so I have time.

I know I have a lot of things, and one of the main goals I have is to get rid of a lot of it, but I can’t do that until I know what I actually have!

So, without further ado, let the games begin!
