CLI Data Gem Portfolio Project

4-25-2019 :
Today is the day I official start my CLI project! It has been a long time coming, and I’m extremely excited to put what I’ve learned to the test. I have already narrowed my project ideas down to two: Billboard hits from 1940 – 2018, or types of ice (there’s 17 different kinds, if you were wondering).

I already have a notebook setup for this project, as I want to keep it separate from my other notes, and I fixed my VM so things should run smoothly. From today until the project is complete, I will be updating this page with how the project is coming along, as well as incorporating my insanity into my regular blogging.

Here goes nothing!

It is day two and I already have it drawn up! You can view the post I wrote about it here: https://rooplixoo.com/2019/04/26/its-something-2 . I like the way it looks so far, and I think I can do this! I probably took on way more than I should have, but I like having a lot on my plate; it keeps me busy and it allows me to feel accomplished at the end of the day!

On top of using everything I’ve learned so far, I’ve also learned a lot independently through Google searches and YouTube videos! As long as I’m learning something new, I’m happy!

I was really upset earlier today (late yesterday) because I thought I was going to have to alter my entire project. On the second level of my cli gem, where it will list the Billboard hits for the year selected, I wanted to make it if the person enters the number of a song that it would pop up in browser with a corresponding video. I googled everything I possibly could to see if I would be able to do this, and I came up empty.

After hours of googling and trying to figure it out, I watch one of the videos from my school and within the last 10 minutes, they did what I want to accomplish. Hours of research, and working out a compromise, all to watch a video and get the answer that I couldn’t find.

I know I should have probably already started to write my code, but I needed to plan out every move I needed to make so this CLI gem works! So now, I can OFFICIALLY start my endeavor!

It is 5:00 AM, I have been up all night, and I have most of the files set up and ready to code. I’ve been dragging my feet, but I’m just going to dive in and start! Will update further on.

Update:
I typed out everything I needed in a separate file and everything that I’ve played around with seems to be working so far!
